This classroom page is designed to provide you all the deet's about this class. The links on the right will take you to my stock market contest, class documents, and lesson plans. And hey, look! A calendar. I will do my best to keep that bad boy updated with all of the assignments and when they're due.

Why do I need to know this stuff?

Predicting what lies in the future is virtually impossible, but we do know that whatever it brings, you will need to earn an income and choose what to do with said income. So you're going to need to know how to navigate the financial decisions you must face and to make informed decisions relating to career exploration, budgeting, banking, credit, insurance, spending, financing postsecondary education, taxes, saving and investing, buying/leasing a vehicle, and living independently. Development of financial literacy skills and an understanding of economic principles will provide the basis for responsible citizenship, more effective participation in the workforce, and career success. The more you learn about the importance of managing your finances and the more financially literate you become, the more chances you'll have at living a comfortable life style. So, why do you need to know this stuff? It will help you be better at life in the "real world". Yay, future!

How does this class work?

I'm working on "flipping" my classroom so that all demonstrations are recorded and available online, but that won't be happening for awhile. So, this class will run like a typical high school class with daily lessons and assignments. We will be playing an online stock market contest to get familiar with how the stock market works and test your investing chops. So, at the beginning of each class you will have roughly 5-10 minutes to check your stock portfolio and buy or sell stocks as you see fit. Join the contest by clicking the link below.

What do I need for this class?

The most important thing you need for this class is to be here. Seriously, don't miss school. There will be several invaluable in-class activities that you just can make up if you miss a day. You also must have a 3-ring binder, loose-leaf paper, and a writing utensil. These items will help you keep track of the insane amount of handouts you'll get and take notes so you can remember all the awesome info I shove into your head. See the class syllabus for more info.
